EPAT treatments for Achilles Tendonitis
and Plantar Fascitis
(Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology)
Our Doctors are excited about bringing this new technology to Coffee County, Tennessee.
Heel pain, Achilles Tendonitis and Plantar Fascitis, is the most common foot problem presenting in our office.
While most heel pain is responsive to conservative therapy including night splints, orthotics, strapping, physical therapy, NSAIDS, corticosteroid injections, rest and walking boot, 10% of patients remain with pain. These patients are faced with the choice of having surgery or living with pain.
EPAT is a new technology that is a safe, non invasive option to surgery. It is almost painless, inexpensive and uses the physics of sound wave technology.
Swiss made by Storz Medical and distributed by CuraMedix in North America, EPAT is used extensively in Europe and Canada.
The mode of action during Pulse Therapy is to stimulate chemical processes providing improved blood circulation in the pain regions to promote natural healing.
Achilles Tendonitis Treatment
The patient is positioned comfortably prone (lying on your stomach) with a pillow under the ankle.
The boundaries of the Achilles Tendon and area of most pain is identified.
Sound wave pulse therapy is administered. Each treatment is 2000 pulses – sound 'shocks' – thus the name 'shock wave therapy.'
3 – 6 treatments, a week apart (5 – 10 days) are performed.
The other regular conservative therapies are continued during the treatment.
Plantar Fascitis Treatment
For Plantar Fascia treatment, the patient can be positioned comfortably prone (lying on your stomach) or supine (lying on your back) with a pillow under the ankle.
The boundaries of the Plantar Fascia and area of most pain is identified.
Sound wave pulse therapy is administered. Each treatment is 2000 pulses.3 – 6 treatments, a week apart (5 – 10 days) are performed.
The other regular conservative therapies are continued during the treatment.
